Baby Baby

I've been working really hard the last month or so, and that hasn't left much time for blogging, but here are just two of the fun projects I've worked on.

The first weekend in October I'll be participating in my very first craft fair! I'm nervous and excited, but mostly just in a panic to get things ready. A few days before the fair I'll show you some of the things I'll have for sale and hopefully a few of you can come check it out!

I just finished up a project for Heather Allred Photography. We did a logo, blog header and some watermarks for her photos.

The Baby Book

A few days ago I got the baby book back from the printer. I'm so excited about the way it turned out. (This photo makes his skin look really dark, but it doesn't look like that on the book.) I designed it with inspiration from many, many comic book covers. I feel like I did my research for this project, but I'm glad I did. It looks like a combination of a few comic books that I really liked. It was only fitting that this photo make the front, since it is what inspired the whole "Super Preston" thing in the first place.

On the inside I wanted to continue with the comic book theme, but obviously couldn't illustrate an entire comic book. I'd be working on it for years. So I decided to just put photos in what looks like a comic strip. There is a page like this for each month recording how much he weighed and how tall he was, as well as some milestones for each month. His "official" month picture is on the top right of each spread.

And the back cover he is flying off to save the world. What do you think?

My Whimsy

For the last few weeks I've been working with Sonja who is opening My Whimsy Salon and Spa in Lehi, Utah.

I created a logo, business cards and a repeat pattern for her.

I made these oversized business cards for Andrea of Andrea's Artistic Cakes. Andrea (who is my aunt) has a great personality and I think it comes out in the card! I love how they turned out.

Just for kicks I wanted to include the original that I sent to her. What a contrast, huh? She knew what she wanted and it totally works!

I've been anxiously awaiting some photos from my friend, Jackie since I asked her to take some of my recent projects and things I have for sale.

I was blown away by what she sent! Mostly because I had tried over and over to take a decent picture and they just came out looking really bad. Thank you Jackie!

The blog, website and shop got a new look today. I was getting tired of the old logo so here we go. If you're bored and want a new button, they are on the left (but the old ones still work if you're not bored). Let me know what you think!

Super Birthday Party

As promised, here are the rest of the details of my little man's first birthday party! He's always been my Super Preston so a superhero party seemed fitting. We started with some sweet invitations that set our theme.

For the day of the party I had cupcakes with our "Preston is 1" logo on the signs.

And my favorite part...

Superhero supplies. Each kid got to choose their super power!

They had 24 powers to choose from... x-ray vision, mind reading, invisibility, muscle, teleportation, immortality, elasticity, etc.

I'm not going to lie, I only made two capes. I guess I didn't quite make it to my goal. In the end, I'm glad I didn't spend hours and hours making capes. My little man got to wear his and I'm glad I did that.

Then came the cake. He hated it! But it looked great. I made it days in advance, froze it, printed out a P in a superhero font, cut out the cake and frosted it while still frozen. It worked like a charm.

Be looking for a "Superhero Party Kit" in my shop soon. I'll be selling the invitations, cupcake tags, super power water bottle labels and absolutely NO capes!

Yellow

I've been really loving the color yellow lately and I want some in my house.

I came across this house on this blog and oh my... I need that yellow door on a gray house. Isn't that the perfect combination?

It made me think of my friend Jackie {because she loves those colors}. And speaking of Jackie, she recently took engagement pictures for my brother and future sister-in-law. So go check those out here.

Color Combinations

I'm always trying to come up with pretty combinations of colors for designs, but sometimes I just go terribly wrong. That's usually when I scratch the whole thing and start over. I also go back to my same old color schemes. The tried and true that I know work. My favorite of those is green and blue. I love the look of green and blue. Almost all shades of the two.

My cousin told me yesterday that she loves blue and brown together.

I love these two together. That blue keeps popping up on everything and I have always been a big fan of orange.

This reminds me of a circus.

And these are just pretty.

What are you favorite color combinations? Do you always use the same colors on your blog/buy the same color fabric or clothes?

Superhero Party Preview

One thing I love is a good party! My little man is turning 1 and we are having a Superhero party...

What's a Superhero without his cape? We'll see if I'm still sane after making these in bulk. One down.

Today I figured out how to get HTML in a box below a button. So anyone who I have made a button for, if you would like it like this please let me know. And if you want my button this is what you need to do....

Find this to the right:

Copy the entire HTML code from the box below the logo.

Now go to your blog and add a gadget in your "layout" tab. Add the HTML gadget and paste that in the box. Save it and you should have the button. Let me know if you put it on your blog! If you already have my button, try this one instead... it will be transparent (no white around the edges). Thanks!

I did this blog header for my friend Christy who is a serious runner. Her blog "It just looks like slow motion" is all running all the time!

Christy is training for her first marathon so we added the little mile post with 26.2! Nice little touch, I think. And yes, that is cartoon Christy running!
